Tune in today at 1 p.m. on 1240 WSQL for the “I Love Brevard” radio show where our “Brevardian of the Week” is Karol Anne Kahrs!

Karol played a pivotal role in the history and implementation of Title IX in the United States in the early 70’s.  Check out this fantastic short documentary film that showcases her role as the first female Associate Athletic Director at the University of Illinois, who created and developed the first Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics program there (this film is up for a Mid-America Emmy!):

Brevardian of the Week: Stephen Jackson!

AH_130804_1580Children/spouse/other: a cat named Tigger.

Place of employment (what do you do & where?): Stephen P. Jackson Designs. I design and do the construction drawings for custom homes, residential additions and renovations.

Tell us about your architectural design work… what types of projects do you do?
I have done everything from small cabins to 8,000 square foot homes. Also, renovation of barns into homes, barns into “party barns”, and the interior renovation of a bank into offices.

Is there any particular design “style” you lean toward?
I enjoy modern and open interiors with a “mountain flair” and sympathethic exterior materials. I want the homes to be comfortable and compatible with the clients’ needs, but many have great views of mountains, lakes, etc., and I strive to take advantage of that special asset.
