LizChildren: Erin (age 27), Michael & Colleen (age 25 – twins), Mary Elizabeth (age 22)

Place of employment: Family Physician at Brevard Family Practice

What do you love most about your job?
Working with people of all ages – listening to them one-on-one and working together with them to improve or maintain their health.

How are you enjoying your new life in Brevard?
Love it!  However, I have been so busy since moving here a month ago, I haven’t had enough time to explore, etc.

Do you have favorite Brevard spots yet (restaurants, places to shop, etc.)?
Not yet, – having just moved here, I am still in the process of sampling all the various restaurants, etc.

How do you spend your free time (when not working)?
I love the outdoors – hiking, backpacking, etc.  I am hoping to get back into tennis, which I used to play regularly. I also like to read, listen to music, go out with friends etc.

What’s the one thing you like best about living in Brevard?
The proximity to these beautiful mountains and all that goes along with it.  So far, everyone I have met has been very friendly and everyone seems to really enjoy living here.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
That changed over time… teacher, interpreter, physical therapist.  I really did not decide on medicine until halfway through college.

Ever had a brush with a celebrity?
Got to meet the late great singer songwriter Harry Chapin after a concert years ago.

What are you most proud of in your life?
My children –  that they have turned into kind and caring young adults.

What do you remember as your favorite subject in school? (and least favorite subject)
I loved biology class – ended up being a Biology major in college.  I never did care for physics or calculus though.

Did you ever pretend to be sick as an excuse to stay home from school?
No, my mother would never let us get away with that!

Who was your favorite singer or group growing up?
As a preteen, I loved the Monkees. Later my tastes evolved to singers such as Cat Stevens, James Taylor and then others such as Springsteen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac.

What kind of music do you like to listen to now?
An eclectic variety… old stuff, but also newer groups such as Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, and music from Broadway musicals such as Les Mis.

What was your first job ever?
I worked in the Men’s department of a JC Penney’s as a cashier.

Do you remember your first crush?
Yes, but let’s not talk about that :)

How has being a mom changed you?
In too many ways to mention.  I have been a mom for so long, I am not sure how I was before that.

What do you hope your children will remember most about you as a mother?
That I was always there for them as much as possible, and did my best.

What kind of parent were you:  A. Very strict, B. Just about anything goes, C. Somewhere in between?
I think in between.  My kids knew I had certain expectations about their behavior, school work, etc, but at the same time, with 4 kids, a job, etc, I had to learn to not always “sweat” the small stuff.

What’s the last home-cooked meal you prepared?
Stir fried chicken with broccoli over rice

What was the last good movie you saw?
Saving Mr. Banks with Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks

Your favorite de-stress technique after a long day:
Go home, change, put the dog on a leash and go for a long walk.
