Are you involved in any volunteer work?
Yes, but right now it is mainly connected to the boards I serve on.

What’s one item on your bucket list?
To retire from something.

How do you like to spend your free time?
Making things, rebuilding vintage electronics, creating art, road trips.

Ever had a brush with a celebrity?
Probably quite a few, especially in the Nashville area, but often I didn’t personally know their work.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Brevard?
The great downtown, and the nearby trails.

If someone had two days to spend in Brevard, how would you suggest they spend their time?
Spend part of each day in downtown shopping and dining, and check out at least one of the nearby parks each day as well.

What was the best (or worst) summer job you had while growing up?
My dad’s shoe store was the best, but my mowing business or studio were also good. A short time at a big box shoe store was probably the worst.

What’s one thing you did as a child you hope your kids never do?
Not asking enough questions sometimes.

Have you ever seen a U.S. President or Vice-President in person?

Yes, Reagan.

Do you have any knowledge of the origins of your family name?
I’ve heard that it was St. Maur in France.

What do you remember about your first crush?
My wife in college. I could talk to anyone but her.

What do you remember as your favorite subject in school?
Art class, freedom to experiment and to make mistakes.

What do you remember as your least favorite school subject?
History, but later found it was the teacher.

Tell about the best pet you ever had.
Lucky – I found him as a kitten being thrown in the air by a pack of dogs one night. He traveled around with me quite a bit after that.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Geologist

Name some popular hit songs from your youth.
REM – Stand, U2, B-52s – Roam. Mostly we listened to less popular music / alternative music.

Who was your favorite singer or group?
Not sure if I had a particular favorite, REM, The Smiths, the Cure, and a bunch of others were popular where I was and were interesting at the time.

Describe a very proud moment in your childhood.
When I was 12 I convinced my friends to build a section of trail that connected the various trails in our town. I’m sure it wasn’t legal, but it is still a main trail in the town today.

Tell of your closest friend during your childhood.
Probably Mike Bennett. We used to bike, fish, and shoot together growing up – lots of guy stuff.

What was your very first job?
Helping in my dad’s shoe store, then mowing yards.

Share the best vacation experience you can recall.
My Honeymoon, or time spent studying global mergers & acquisitions in The Hague.

Share your most unpleasant vacation experience you can recall.
A bunch of large birds seemed to stay awake all night right outside our window on our Honeymoon.

If you were to return to your youth, what would you do differently?
Can’t think of anything, unless it had something to do with writing down the correct number on a lottery ticket, or such.

Have you ever encountered poison ivy or poison oak?
Not allergic so far.

What was your most prized possession as a child?
A 400 year old Samurai sword.

Do you believe in Big Foot?
No.

What famous person inspired you the most while growing up?
Can’t think of anyone famous that inspired me, just a few friends, family and teachers.

Does the tooth-fairy visit your home? If so, how much money does a tooth bring?
Yes, probably $2-$5

What are you most thankful for?
My family

What important goal do you have for the next three months?
Too many to list.

What’s your favorite thing to do with your kids?
Road trips.

What is the best advice you have ever received about how to be a good dad?
Don’t be to strict or too easy-going. That way you have to put thought into it, and if you’re at least thinking about it, you’re a step ahead of many. Just made that up though.

What are your dreams for the coming year? The next 5 years?
For work this year, to fill every vacant storefront in the HOB district, and for 5 years, to keep it that way, and add to the number of storefronts (more buildings). At home there are plenty more dreams.

Things I like: Interesting things I haven’t seen before, art, music, pottery.

Things I don’t like: I mentioned to someone recently that I don’t like parades that bore my children, so I guess that is one.

Favorite book: No favorite. “How to” books, or books with information about history, science, etc.

Favorite movie: guess I’ll say “My Neighbor Totoro”, or some Miyazaki movie.

Favorite music: I like the Pixies, Tom Waits, Dave Brubeck, Diane Krall, Underworld, Allison Krauss, Louis Prima, Pink Martini, Bela Bartok, Marty Robbins, Celtic, lots of fairly obscure new & old stuff, and more. I probably have 2,000 albums/cds.

Favorite TV show:  probably American Pickers at the moment
